783rd MP BN Pictures From Afghanistan
My brother was finally able to send me the pictures he’s been taking from his pre-deployment training and his unit’s housing at Bagram, Afghanistan. I’ve got the housing pictures in my Gallery section. There’s a good group of pictures of when a select group of soldiers from his unit were being trained to operate the military’s new MRAP vehicle that I’ll get up in the next day or so. There were some videos with those as well that I may or may not toss up on to the YouTube. I haven’t decided, yet.
I’m an 85 year old WWII veteran. During WWII, I served in the 783rd M. P. Bn. Tonight, sitting at my computor, I decided to type in 783rd M. P. Bn. and I came up with this item. I served in Co. D 783rd M. P. Bn. During the invasion of Utah Beach, Normandy, Co. D was attached to the 1st Engineer Special Bridage. After landing, Co. D took over the control of the beachhead. Years ago, I donated my invasion map to the General Omar Bradley Library at West Point. Later, the rest of the Bn. landed and the 783rd was assigned the military police phase of the famous Red Ball Highway, which was the main supply route to support General Patton;s drive across France.
